Berkley Holmstedt
Berkley Holmstedt (1926-2007) var andra generationens immigrantättling. Son till Oscar Holmstedt och hans hustru Mary f. Braman. Barnbarn till Carolina Svensdotter Stedt född 1838 i Hultsjö socken och död i Red Oak, Iowa USA 1920. Berkley som bodde i en förstad till Omaha avled efter en tids sjukdom 15 november. and DaVann Hallman, of Omaha, NE; 6 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 2

Viola Russell
Viola Russell was born on Nov. 15, 1906 at Stanton, Iowa. She
was the only child born to Anton and Hilma Johnson Hultquist. She joined two
stepbrothers at home.
The family moved to Boone County, Neb., when Viola was
a young girl and she attended elementary school in the Braddish community.
Viola was confirmed at the Salem Lutheran Church in
1919. She started high school at Albion, Neb., but the family moved to a
farm south of Grant, Neb., in 1922. She finished high school at Perkins County
High School where she played on the girls basketball team. After
high school she attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln for one year
where she received her teaching certificate. She taught country
school south of Paxton until her marriage.
Viola was married to Delbert B. Russell on Nov. 26,
1927 at Holyoke, Colo. They made their farm home northwest of Elsie, Neb., for
over
60 years. Delbert and Viola moved into Ogallala, Neb., in 1988.
Viola continued to maintain her home after Delbert died
in 1996. In 1998 she moved to the Westview Retirement Center in Grant. Because
of
declining health, she moved to the Imperial Manor in 2001 where she died early
Thursday morning, July 1, 2004. She had reached the age of 97.
Viola was always an active mother to her children. She
would often play the piano at the country school for their musical programs. She
served as a 4-H leader for her children and in 1961 was formally recognized as
Perkins County "Mother of the Year." In earlier years she served
with other women in her farming neighborhood at the North Platte Canteen during
World War II.
In addition to her parents and husband, Viola was
preceded in death by her two step-brothers, Edward and Raymond Hultquist: two
sons,
Dean and Leroy; one daughter, Joyce Jablonski; and one granddaughter, Cheryl.
She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Ostrom of
Kearney, Neb., and Idonna and husband Jesse Deaver of Grant; two sons, Robert of
Oberlin, Kan., and Roger and wife Renna of Chattanooga, Tenn.; one
daughter-in-law, Eleanor Russell of Wallace, Neb., and one son-in-law, Leonard
Jablonski of Grant; 20 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and eight
great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Her body was cremated.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, July 10, at
10 a.m. at the Grant Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Robert Pierce officiating.
Burial of cremains will be in the Paxton Cemetery. A
memorial has been established.
Bullock-Long Funeral Home is in charge of
arrangements.

Frank Holmstedt Dies
Funeral service were held Friday afternoon at the Presbyterian church for Frank
Holmstedt, who passed away Wednesday at the St. Francis hospital in Grand
Island, after an illness of serval months. Mr. Holmstedt had resided in Nance
county since 1897. Rev Irving Askine, pastor of the Presbyterian church,
conducted the funeral services and interment was made in the Fullerton cemetery.
Frank Holmstedt was born in Smoland, Sweden, on August 25, 1862, and died in a
Grand Island, Nebraska hospital on October 24, 1928.
He came to America in 1885, and seattled at Marquette, Kansas. In 1892 he moved
to Stanton, Iowa and 1897 he moved to Nance County, Nebraska where he continued
to reside until his death.
On November 4, 1891, at Maraquette, Kansas, he was united in marriage to Miss
Vendela Johnson, who survives him. His seven children are Mairitz, Myrtle,
Walter, Edna, George, Robert and Irene. All of Fullerton. He is also survived by
seven grandchildren, and three sisters and four brothers.
He was confirmed in Lutheran church in Sweden at the age of 15 years.

Stockaryds Filadelfia har änkefru Sofia Ekström Stockaryd, jordfästs.
Sorgemusik utfördes av Greta Svensson. Pastor David Tunhaw förrättade
jordfästningen. Margit och Stig Ekström, Agne Nilsson och David Tunhaw
medverkade med sång. Vid båren framfördes barnens tack till den avlidna av
sonen Arthur Ekström, Markaryd, och dottern Maj-Britt Wilzén, Aneby. För
barnbarnen tackade Ulla-Britt Ekström, Markaryd (fel ska vara
Hässleholm), för syskon, svägerskor, svågrar och syskonbarn svågern
Oscar Ljunggren, Bottnaryd, Egon Johansson, Halmstad, och Leif Aidemark,
Värnamo, och för kusinerna Josef Holmstedt, Stockaryd. Pastor David Tunhaw
talade för Stockaryds Filadelfiaförsamling. Pensionärsföreningens tack
frambars av Albert Johansson. Vid graven sjöng församlingens sångare. Utöver
en rik blomstergärd hedrades den bortgångnas minne med gåvor till
Brasilienmissionen.

Dödsfall. I torsdags avled efter några veckors sjukdom i sitt hem i Stockaryd fru Maria Katarina Jonasson, född Stedt (hon är inte född Stedt vilket är en felaktig skrivning. Egen anm.) maka till f.d. hemmansägaren Anders Jonasson. Hon var född i Stigåsa i Stockaryd 1864. Där har hon även varit bosatt ifrån det hon år 1884 ingick sitt äktenskap till 1933, då makarna flyttade in till Stockaryds samhälle. Den bortgångna, som varit stilla och försynt samt varmt intresserad för missionen, sörjes förutom av maken av nio barn, av vilka de två äldsta äro i Amerika, samt barnbarn.

Sarah Peterson (Svensdotter) (1828 Hultsjö -1902 Kansas) dotter till Sven Holmberg, Biskopsberg, Hultsjö, ana 46 och syster till Carolina
Sara Holmberg ingick äktenskap med Johan Magnus Peterson. Familjen emigrerade till USA 1874 och bosatte sig i delstaten Kansas. Av barnen återvände sonen Johannes Emil som tagit sig namnet Florén och blev kyrkoherde i Fröderyd.

Leland var gift med Mathilda Wilhelmina Ingemanson, Minnie kallad, dotter till Carolinas Stedt´s syster Johanna Svensdotter, gift Ingemanson och bosatt i Kansas. Minnie var kusin till Maria Jonasson i Stockaryd.

DIED - at his home in this city, last Thursday afternon, Mr Leland Osborn.

Leland Osborn was born November 2, 1867, and died February 8, 1900, aged 32
years, 3 months and 6 days. He left Jefferson City, Ohio in 1891 for Denver,
Colorado where he remained three years, then coming to Marquette where he
resided at the time of his death. About six years ago he was united in marriage
to Miss Minnie Ingemanson. He was member of the Modern Woodmen of America.
The funeral service were conducted by Dr. Lund and Rev. Wills.
